My kids grew up on these games from Humungous , which is gone now but you can download their excellent learning and problem solving skill games here.

yahooligans has lots of stuff and if you want some softwere I bought my son one called Jumpstart, he loves it. I don't even metion playing it to him, he just sits at the computer and asks me to put his game in. It comes in levels from pre-k to 4th grade.
