Hi-
I have "scattered" keloids from scaring. I have had a ton of piercings and the only ones that left a keloid were in my conch... never through the top of my cartaledge or on m tongue. This is obviously a concern since I am now thinking about getting a tattoo. Does anyone out there have keloids or have gotten one from a tattoo? And any suggestions on what I can do to see IF i will get keloids from a tattoo? Obviously the last thing I want to do is get a tatoo and leave a nasty scar. Would love to get some feedback.
Thank you.

i'm in a fraternity where some brand themselves once in. they actually want keloids, but that's a genetic trait. however, even though many have big keloids from the branding non that i've noticed have keloids from their various tattoos. i really think you are safe, it's not a deep enough skin injury for them to form. i'm sure that tattooist would know the best as well. you can get a second opinion from him.

hope this helped.

I have never had a keloid from any tattoo work I have gotten, or known anyone who has. As long as you take care of your tattoo per instructions as it is healing, you should have no issues with it at all. (and I have had a couple keloids in the past from scarring, and a temp one on my tongue ring because I had the wrong size jewelry in) Before you get any tattoo work done, always go in and check out the place, talk to the artists- ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS, and talk to your doctor about it as well if you still feel uncomfortable about everything. What you are doing now (homework about the process) is a very smart move on your part.

My guess, the only way you gould get a keloid reaction in your tattoo would be if you picked repeatedly at part of your tattoo as it was healing -provided it scabs up thick, however even that would take a couple months of damaging yourself.

I have a keloid from having a mole removed a number of years ago, then I had hypertrophic scarring (like a keloid, but that goes away once the irrtant is removed) from a nostril piercing. Since I've had those scars I've also gotten two tattoos, no keloid type scarring with those. If you're concerned about it though be sure to talk to your doctor.

I have never personally heard of getting keloids froma tattoo. I also get them occassionally from piercings. But I have 3 tattoos and have never had a problem. I think the best thing for you to do would be to ask a reputable tattoo expert. I say "reputable" because not all tattoo artists will tell you the honest truth...but they will tell you whatever they need to tell you to make money off of you. Make sure you tell them where you want the tattoo and the past experience you've had from piercings. Good Luck!

Most tattoo artists will refuse to do work on keloids. They either scar up worse or the ink doesn't show correctly. I would suggest working around them if you can.

I'm sure you are aware that keliods are excessive scar tissue. My main girl would get them even from cat scratches. If you get them easy, absolutely stick to henna for parties and forget about tattoos.
