If I refer someone I dislike, in private, by a slur that actually applies to their group. EX:Some black man acts like a stereotypical white jerk would, but I call him N-word while making fun of him. Am I simply overcritical, or a racist pig?

hey I'll lay it out like a black friend of mine laid it out for me....and I'm sure plenty of ppl will call me a racist for this but here it goes anyway....there is a difference between blacks and ni**ers just like there is a difference between whites and white trash and Mexicans and wet backs and any group and there specific racial slur....i mean many racial slurs came out of observations of a groups actions or from that race in the first place as in a slang by which they call each other....but then again if the world wasn't so touchy feely in the first place you wouldn't be worried about it, if the guy is an @ss he's an @ss why should it matter what particular verb you use to describe his "asshood" and besides that i have lived around and with many races and my personal observation is that other races are WAY more racist against whites than whites are against other races....and if you don't believe me there are numerous statistics and reports to back this up just do a little research. so basically you are just overcritical because society says that the white man must be nice to everyone else even while everyone else is hucking rocks(racial slurs and such) at him.

I don't think you are intending to be a racist when you do that, however, it makes me question why you would do it. If he is acting like a jerk, then why not call him a jerk? There are so many names that you can call that person, so why choose that particular word that is really sensitive to that man's entire culture. In a way, I suppose it is racist, because by using that word, you're not just insulting him, you're insulting an entire race. Racism does not exist through burning crosses and white hoods anymore; it is so subtle, that most people don't pick up on it. I suppose you're not trying be racist, you probably don't consider yourself to be racist. However, you might want examine why does that word come into mind when you make fun of this man.

I'd consider you a racist pig if you use that horrible word. That word could really hurt some people even if you are just using it in private to make fun of this person. It is wrong. I don't think you would like it if someone called you a name like that so it just isn't polite. It's rude.

not if you didn't mean it to be. The problem is that black people can't seem to understand the difference between a black person and a ni**er. To me, it's like a white person and a white trash person. I mean, don't black people take a look at other people in their society and say "oh what a piece of trash" I mean geez! There are the black respectable people that actually do exist out there that are educated and well off and kind hearted. And then there are the one's that shoot cops and all the BS. The "n" word is just the social way of defining good and bad. In my opinion.

Using a racial slur in a derogatory manner against a member of that race makes you a racist... you're probably just an overly critical pig by nature. :)

I think if you have an issue with someone, you shouldn't snipe at them behind their back, either... step up and say what you got to say. Then let it go.

It doesn't matter. It's pathetic how over sensitive people are about race these days... it's like you can say any horrible thing to a person but if you use a racial slur then you're the next Hitler. I'm mostly black and I can honestly say that hearing people use the term ****** every now and then (especially if the person did something to earn being disliked) it doesn't bother me.

you are an overcritical racist pig, although I hate to abuse pigs by using them as a descriptor.

Although many stereotypes have basis in fact, they are the lazy man's way out. Learn to think for yourself

In theory: No, you were just making fun of him in a very disrespectful way. Are you racist, no, you never said anything disdaining to the group he is a part of. Ignorant? Maybe but there's no tellingif you were really serious about him being what you called him. Disrespectful? Probably, maybe you shouldn't have said that.

If you dislike that person solely because of their race or traits stereotypically linked to their race, then you're racist. If you dislike that person for personal reasons (i.e. he's inconsiderate), you're probably not.

Either way, it's not good calling someone a racial slur.
