My son is 3 years old. For the second time when he had fever (39 degr) he convulged for 1 minute Last he had one year and three months before. In between he had fever but he never convulged. Doctor advised me that 10% of children upto age 5 convulge when they have fever and it will be ok. Can anybody advise me on this with what precautions we should take.

Yes this is normal. It is what happens when the body temperature gets too high. Take all his clothing off and make sure you cool the body as quickly as possible. Even in winter. His temperature will go down quite quickly once you cool his body in tepid water. It is scary I know and 10 times worse when it's your own child. This has happened to my children and they are now healthy adults. Remember though if the temperature dose not go down in a reasonable time then I would take him to the hospital just to be on the safe side.

As a E.M.T. I have seen this many times. In a young child it is common for them to run a high fever. Seizures come on belive it or not when the childs body temps suddenly drop. EMT's are trained to protect the patient who is seizeing from injuring themself.Never..Never put anything in their mouth(more harm could be done than good) I advise keeping tract of how offen and how long seizure activity.I also advise going to hospital (E.R.) when ever child has a seizure. It's always better safe than sorry. You sound like a good parent and only wants whats best for your child.

He is having a seizure probably caused by an extreme core temperature. When he has a fever you need to cool him down in a luke warm bath and take him to see a DR.

Make sure you hold him still while his seizure is happening and make sure NOTHING is in his mouth as he could choke. Secondly, i agree with the bath idea.. but do not put him in by himself. Its normal for childrens temps to get higher then adults, and they are more resiliant to it, but its still not something you WANT to happen. So, therefore, i would use tylenol to keep the temp down below 103 and lukewarm bath. Seizures are not good at ANY age and are killing brain cells.
