In the movie "Troy" when they burned the victimes of the war they put 2 gold coins on top of each eye. Why is that? Is it just in the movie or did they used to do it for real?

Fare for the ferrymen of death.

Troy was around 1300BC and yes coins had been invented by then they were used even before then.

Ancient Greeks did put coins on the eyelids, one for aesthetics and secondly to pay the ferryman in the underworld. The major problem with this is that when the Trojan war happened, coins had not yet been invented! Therefor, it was purely movie fiction.

They did put real gold coins over the eyes to pay Charon, the ferryman who rowed the dead across the river Styx into the underworld

yea! In movie after death gold coin is placed while burning it's religious, they do to please gods or it's their religion and custom (Priam says while talking with achilles, let me put two coins of our custom in his eyes)
I don't think they placed real gold coins while making movie troy but it may be that Greeks used to follow such customs before.

it was due to mythology. putting coins over their eyelids after death assured they would have the fare needed for when the undertaker would take the on the boat ride to the underworld.
