As a proud member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, I feel the Confederate Flag symbolizes an integral part of American Heritage/History and am aghast that it has been blasphemed and forbidden to be flown.

The flag itself is a historic symbol, however, the way people use it and mean it is typically racist. Some of what the Confederates were fighting for was not right. The war was a long time ago, no one around is a member of the Confederacy. We are all Americans. Some people say "Know your history, Grant had slaves" or "It's the battle flag." or "The war didn't start over slavery." True... so? These are NOT excuses. I don't see people running around wearing "Don't Tread on Me" t-shirts.
I live in the South, and the Confederate flag is everywhere. People say, "It's my heritage." blah blah blah... "The South Will Rise Again", laughable. I like "You lost, get over it". Some (very few) people do mean just as "southern pride". For the most part though people use it as a symbol of racism. There are plenty of black people in the South, and I'm sure they are proud to be Southern, but they do NOT put a Confederate Flag (Stars & Bars, whatever) out on their porch. What sickens me more, is I have an EX-girlfriend who's father, on Martin Luther King Day, put out a Confederate Flag and said that it is also Robert E Lee day. All I could think was, "real mature". Is the flag all bad? No. Is it all good? No. Is it a historic symbol? Yes. Is it used as a racist symbol? Yes. It is a way for the ignorant racist to show it, short of putting on a white hood and white pajamas.
I think it's immature and ignorant to run around waving the Confederate flag. It is also embarassing.

There is nothing wrong with the Confederate flag. It is a historical battle flag and the only reason people are so against it is because those chowder heads in the Klan and ignorant hillbillies have morphed it into a banner of racism. It was never designed for that and anyone who actually believes that it's a symbol of racism isn't really a very smart person. Anyone who uses it as a racist symbol is beyond stupid.

Now...fly a swastika. There's a flag/symbol to hate. That was actually a good luck sign and meant eternal life and prosperity until the Nazis identified with it and made it one of the most recognized marketing symbols of hatred in the world today.

I feel that if a person from the South believes in Southern heritage (magnolia trees, sweet tea on the veranda, family trips to Myrtle Beach, Roll Tide, etc...) then I am fine with using the Confederate Flag as a symbol of Southern heritage. However, if a person uses the flag for reasons of discrimination (i.e. KKK) then I disagree with their belief system and do not like seeing the Confederate flag used as symbol of hate. Lastly, since I believe in the flag of the United States and what it stands for I believe in the right to use the Confederate flag for whatever reason a person sees fit. It is up to me to decided who I associate with.

I don't like it. The slavery issue is not the only reason why. I feel that it is ant-American because the Confederate states broke away from the USA. We may have fought against other nations but those other nations never broke away from the USA. The South broke away from the USA and fought against it. That is why the Confederate flag means anti-American in my view.

While I would not display one in my home, I have no problem with those who wish to do so. It is a part of our history and as such is as able to be displayed as a Betsy Ross flag. The Civil War was not started over slavery. The Union adopted the slavery issue to make the war more palatable to the masses, but the fact of the matter is that Ulysses Grant owned slaves but Robert E. Lee didn't. That fact just doesn't fit with the idea of a war to free the slaves.

not sure what it is. I will try to read a little about this subject. myabe someone here can give an idea to those who don't know the issue of the Confenderate Flag.
Also, I think a country, state or a person has the right to separate from a relation that he feels not working whatever the reason is.

It is a flag, but it is NOT my flag, nor should it be flown as THE flag in America. It is not the flag that won. Old Glory won. If it is to be flown, fly it UNDER the American Flag, not at the same height.
