I have a plan to buy CD writer or DVD writer but what is the best? and does DVD burn all files like mp3, CD, VCD,DVD,DOCUMENTS (paper), CD room, divx? rather than CD writer? pls help. thnx in advance.

Dvd burners (a.k.a. writers) are more expensive than Cd burners. However, Dvd burners are worth the money, they are good for backing up important files, such as important documents. As to your question about what they will write, they can write all of the files you mentioned, but it will not play mp3's on a cd player or anything like that. Hopefully that helped you.

CD burners can only burn up to 700mb of data, and is used for burning music files, video CDs or other data types thats under 700mb.
DVD burners can burn anything from CDs to DVDs. DVD burners can burn up to 8.5 gb of data, though you needa burner that supports dual-layer, which is expensive at this time.
I'd recommend a DVD burner if you plan to burn large ammount of data or you like to do video-editing.
otherwise a cd burner is fine enough.

A DVD burner will burn CDs and DVDs. A CD burner will only burn CDs.

DVD burner will burn everything listed.
plus it'll burn DVDs --- AND burn cd's. drop the extra 20 bucks on a dvd burner.

Okay here goes.
A CD writer (also called a CD-RW) will write to CD's .
Most CD's have a 700mb compacity.
A DVD writer (also called a DVD-RW) will most likley be able to burn cd's (look for a DVD-RW that also says CD-RW) a DVD will normally have a compacity of 4.7 Gigs
