I'll give you one if you can contact me.
Give me some way to contact you so I do not get bombarded with mail.

Either tough it out and use the library, or try places like blue hippo or rent a center, which take small monthly payments regardless of your credit history
I started college as a single mom of a preschooler, I used the school's library and my parents computer. (And I did extremely well in college, so I know it wont hurt you)
If you have a little money for a laptop, I suggest going to a computer expo (our city has them quite often, I dont know where you live)
Good Luck

A lot of schools sell computers and other technology - you may be able to purchase one from your school on a payment plan. Otherwise, you can buy a laptop from other places like Dell on a monthly payment plan.

do a seach on Yahoo Groups page for "Freecycle" + "XYZ" where XYZ is the county you live in - so "Freecycle" +"Madison County". Then join the group for your county. Scan thru the messages on their board and see what's being offered - for free! - to members who can pick it up. It may take you a while - some boards let you post "Wanted" requests, so you could do that. Our freecycle members have exchanged tvs, laptops, books, appliances, it's just unbelievable. It is very hit or miss, so it helps to check back frequently.
