Buddha proclaims that these are the Four Noble Truths;

•Existence (life) is a succession of suffering ---or, to exist is to suffer;
•Suffering is caused and created by desires or cravings; the ignorance of true reality allows ambition, anger, illusion, to continue to cause an endless cycle of existence;
•The extinguishing of suffering can be achieved only by the elimination of desire;
• The elimination of desire or craving can be achieved only through the Noble Eightfold Path.

Notice where it says "The extinguishing of suffering can be acheived only by the elimination of desire".
Sex is a desire. Masturbation is a form of self pleasure, which is also a desire.

Buddhists believe masturbation is an immoral act, but there is no punishment for it. Islam, on the other hand, considers masturbation as haram (forbidden).

Buddhist teachers recommend that we keep track of our desires, how they come and go. They say that by not acting on impulse - like sex or masturbation - we can watch our desires fall away.

Personally, I believe sex is an acceptable act if, and only if, it is a gesture of LOVE and not physical pleasure. One night stands are abominable, and sex should only be between two people who are devoted to each other.

As for women, Buddha teaches that we should respect, love, and have peace with everyone. That means women are not sex toys, and are not supposed to be "used".

By the way, those who commented above with statements such as "gimme, gimme, gimme" and whatnot only prove the point that sex is a corrupting act and lowers the morals and intellect of people, particuarly the male population.

Buddhisam has no specific views regarding sex.Buddha himself abandoned family and sex.The theory of Buddha is that all sufferings are due to wants or desires.Sex being a want/desire it is reason for unhappiness.So true buddhist should discard sex as a method of pleasure or want.Sex is only creating progeny or maintaining race.Even Christian and Hindu religion see sex only as a measure to keep the race and not for pleasure.
The rate increase of drug abuse,divorce ,collapse of family system etc in westen society is due to the view that of sex is only
for pleasure and and all laws are let loose to enjoy sex.
