I'm looking at two AMD processors.....both are the Athlon 64 Processor 3800+ Socket AM2. The only difference in the two (that I could see) is the Thermal Power.

One is the "Windsor" with a thermal power of 89w and it sells for $148.

The other is the "Orleans" with a thermal power of 62w and it sells for $42 less than the Windsor.

Why so much difference in the cost?

Is the 89w faster than the 62w? Or what?

The windsor pulls more power, so you will get better performance under heavy load, however 95% of the time they will run about the same. I would go with the less expensive processor unless you are a heavy gamer that pushes your system to its limits or if you will be doing video editing. Otherwise save the money and buy some more ram.

The windsor pulls more heat, thus bigger heatsinks and more fans are in order to keep the system cool. Besides, the orleans is a mobile (notebook) processor and the Windsor is a desktop processor.
