A way for religious organizations to control the population.
when the government wants men for war the churches preach them into the trenches. While the government gives them freedom from paying taxes. Religion is big business and it goes along with what politicians what it to do and say. A million dollars was contributed to the Bush campaign by the United Council of Churches in America. So they could do the will of god.
I guess that was to secure the oil fields for future generations to polute the enviroment. That money could have been better spent to make cars that don't need oil. We are a country that made airplanes, race cars, factory made cars on assembly lines so they were cheep. Give us a quest and we can do it even if it means going to the moon. The sewing machine, computers, ipod, cell phone. That wasn't made by people in Iraq.
We are the inventors and innovators. Give us a problem and we can solve it. We also were first to make the atom bomb.
nuclear power. If we can do that we can run a car without gas.

Honestly in my opinion, with mans capacity to lie and fabricate happenings, i would say todays "god" is a cumulative of ideas passed down from generation to generation, things added here and there, and things also taken away. And im not talking about the entity "GOD." Im talking about society in general's figurative idea about what "god" is.

Im sure that the idea of god is in no way near the same as it was when it started out. This isnt a jab at Catholics, but look at the Catholic church. Thats a random example of how religion, through the "guidance" of man can take a very bad path.

Thats the problem with "God" : MAN. and manmade institutions!

hmmm...i see a lot of of the responses here are OBVIOUSLY coming from non-believers/athiests who, as usual, don't have a clue. that's too bad really. God will put something in your lives, if He hasn't done so already, that, hopefully, will show you the truth about Him. He is as relevant and believed in and loved in today's society as He has always been and that will NEVER change. His people believe in and love Him dearly and in the end...that is the REAL TRUTH. that is what really matters. if you don't believe just remember it was your choice. come the "day of judgement" no one can stand before God and say, "but i didn't realize what i was doing or i didn't really understand" because it will be too late for you. it will be your loss and you will get no pity from God or His people because all this time God is giving you life you have the oportunity to get to know Him/Jesus Christ and you "CHOOSE" not too. once you're dead it'll be too late.

Your own personal Big Brother who watches everything you do, listens to every thought you have, and keeps a running list on whether you deserve to go to heaven, though the criteria is contradictory so you never know what you're really supposed to do. Luckily he can be easily drowned out with alcohol.
