It is so much preventable than it was even 20 years ago. Why are there so many? Are they doing it on purpose? Have we preached so long and hard about protection that they have tuned us out? I find this just crazy!

In schools they usually only teach abstinence. No matter what, the world is not perfect and teenagers are always going to have sex. What adults need to do is better explain condoms and birthcontrol. Most teens are to afraid to ask their parents to help them with birthcontrol until its to late. More trust needs to be taught so parents and children can communicate without parents losing it and instilling fear into their children about sex.

Many of these children are being deceived into believing that parenthood is a sign of "manhood" or "womanhood". Some have the delusion that having a baby is something that labels them as a privileged character and it is some kind of an accomplishment to show others that they are "adults". Many also do not believe it can happen to them the first time they have sex and are not aware that a "baby" is another human being with needs similar to their own that must be met. It is a fact that the ability to conceive is greatest during mid -adolescence and early adulthood, but Western culture does not adhere to this fact and prepare youth for such responsibility.

I think it's because there isn't as much talk about prevention as there was 10 years ago. If they still have a sex ed course available some parents feel that it's better if they (the parents) tell them (their kids) themselves.

Then again, the kids of today are all about rebellion- so why not do something to make their parents mad by getting pregnant or ending up with HIV or some other STI/STV before their 18th brithday because they won't/don't use protection.

Babies having babies makes no sense- especially when the ones having them know nothing about what it's like to live on your own and raise one with no help.

Good luck to them and thanks for letting me vent.

Protection and the possibility is much more open, so I don't think it's that..I have heard first hand from girls that they want someone who will love them unconditionally( which used to kill me, because they would say they hated their moms), kids are much more sexual than 20 yr.s ago..it's everywhere, even if they don't watch it on tv, they hear it in music..unfortunately we also as a society seem to be ok with babies having babies, being on welfare is no longer taboo( some people keep pushing them out to keep getting benes) alot of young girls also have a serious lack of respect for their bodies..and they always seem to think that if something happens and I do get pregnant, he loves me so he'll stand by me, on the other hand some girls have had babies because they think it'll keep the guy around..

Peer pressure and lack of education is to blame. Some parents do not tell their kids what kinds of bc are out there. It is a parents responsibility to eduates their kids on the dangers of unprotected sex. Kids will have sex even if parents say no but a parent can protect their children with education. the more open parents are with their kids the better prepared kids will be prepared to make a good dcision or ask for help when faced with this dilemma. Parents need to be involved in their childrens lives.

It is crazy that in this day and age that teens are dropping babies one after another. I think a lot of the problem can be blamed on the lack of parenting. Or....the fact that a generation ago there was a rise in teen pregnancy and history repeats itself. Sex education shouldn't be left up to the schools and the internet. Teens need to be given proper information from their parents and other trusted adults. Another reason...they are looking for attention and love..something they lack from their own parents. What ever their reasoning..I know a lot of lives are affected.

I find it disturbing as well.

Some girls that age think that a baby is a living doll that will love them unconditionally. Some girls, I notice it more in the inner city here, know that if they have a child, they can get their own apartment in public housing. (On our dimes.) So, they do that to get outta Momma's house. Some are just so gullible that the "I promise I'll pull out and nothing will happen" line works. Too bad they can't do temporary "neutering" of teenagers and reverse it when they turn 25. =)

I know-It is soooo depressing seeing these young girls getting themselves into those situations. And the parents could always take them to go get contraceptives so they know that it would never happen, but then the kids could take it wrong and think that is all the more reason to go and do it. Others would hopefully take it and stay responsible and wait. I have three girls under the age of 6 and worry about those things now!

I believe that they think it will not happen to them. I agree that there has been so much preaching that is very easy for them to choose not to listen. I feel really sorry for them for the fact that they will never get to live life to the fullest and they don't realize how much of a responsibilty it is when they lay down without protection. It is a sad world we live in!

Because they have been preached the importance of absitnence rather than having realistic sex education?

Or because kids that age really are naive enough to think nothing like that can ever happen to them?
