If the Bumblebee Man was based on the character El Chapulin Colorado (The Red Grasshopper) played by Roberto Gómez Bolaños. Why is the Bumblebee Man dark? I mean, the Mexican character wasn't anglo white, but he wasn't that dark either.

Im guessing fear of litigation.... Some paradoies can get you sued.

Then again, the Simpsons as "humans" are primarily of a cartoonish Yellow hue/color. I personally dont know anyone that yellow. Perhaps its not suppose to be based in reality, even though its close enough to real human flesh tone.

Finally, perhaps it was a mistake and they just kept it going....
Smithers was originally brown *see the First season, when Homer gets fired, then rehired as the Safety Inspector of Sector 7G.*

Moleman has switched skin tones several times, in addition to dying a few times *off screen*

And Judge Snyder has gone from Yellow to Brown.... possibly because the secret was let out on a DVD commentary that he was based on Robert Bourque, a former Supreme Court Nominee who admitted to smoking weed. *Personally, I thought it was pretty obvious, because most of the writers are politically or socially motivated*

God help the Simpsons if Bill Cosby ever figures out that Dr. Hibbard and his family are a parody of his hit 80's sit-com characters. Hopefully they'll draw Judge Synder, in which case.... Boys will be Boys. *grins*

The main idea was to make a latin character with a custom of insect. It is supposed that the character of the Bumblebee is latin and not dark at all.

I think having a chubby, darker Bumbleeman was just funnier to look at. He probably did not want to make the exact same character. He wanted a parody, but not an exact likeness. Just a guess...
