first of all, smile and say thank you, and there is obviously no way to compliment them back if they truly are the "perfect stranger" because any compliment u give them they will most likely know about it already. so just smile, say thank you, and ask him/her out...

well depends if you are very beautiful and thinks he might have gone mad on your looks . in this case you should say thank you I do not take gifts from strangers. and also raise a question what is the reason for him to be so generous towards you.
That what a reasonable person should do in life but if you are dreaming and preparing your self deliberating targeting some one who should come forward and present you gift than its OK as loose character person doesn't,t require normal suggestions. they can do what ever their moods tells them at that time. hope you understand.

I wear this leopard print hat every where I go & I,m always getting compliments on it, I just smile & say thankyou, seriously if I got a quarter for every comment on my hat I would have a lot of money.

I smile and say, "Thank you!" You don't have to stay and chat. A confident and friendly "Thank you" goes a lot farther than ignoring it, dismissing it, or arguing with it. Don't divert your eyes and send the message that you don't deserve a compliment. They didn't have to give it. You must have done something right!

Say thank you, full stop. That's the proper response regardless who gives it to you.
Suppress the urge to say things like "This old thing? I got it on sale. Because it's an irregular. See this spot here?"

This person doesn't know you at all and they step out of their comfort zone, or go out of their way to compliment me.I find it nice, because I know it's sincere.
