Child turning 5 on September 18 was admitted to school August 8. This child was then pulled from school and refused admission because she does not turn 5 by September 1. This child passed all of the entrance tests and is even a candidate for gifted services. The parent spoke with the principal, who merely repeated over and over that it is the law. How does the parent contest the decision and ask for an exception?

The policy is probably set by the local school board, or maybe by the superintendent of schools.

I'd check there first, and ask politely if an exception could be made. Have the appropriate documentation available.

And it's more likely a school policy than an actually enacted state law, but check with an attorney on that one.
