Warm massage.
Part of the soreness is minute tears in the muscle fibers. Its normal and will go away with time, but massage will prevent tightening as it heals. Part is from build up of lactic acid in the muscle. Heat will help increase blood flow.

Ice pack. You must first get the swelling down . Twenty minutes on and twenty minutes off (3 ) times will definetly help. Take it easy that day. Then when the swelling goes down you can use heat. I mean wet heat. Use the rubberized bottle. Dry heat will as you guess dry your muscle. You will fell just like new . good luck

light stretches I also find balms like "goanna cream", "deep heat cream" ammelitz rub etc. (basically anything with menthol, methyl salicylate (with or without camphor) good for temporary relief of muscle pain.

If the symptoms persist over a long time, you really should go and see a doctor about it.

ice it after you use it. Heat before you use it. Stretch before and after you use it. Take it easy. also try saran wrapping it at night. Works better than a heating pad for extended heating.
