Where can I find detailed Dow Jones statistics?
The kind of statistics I wish to find (or be able to reproduce based on other data), for example, is per-hour DJ status over the past year, or, how many of the times that the DJ started going down, it actually ended up, etc.

I've got a decent amount of history (downloadable) from prophet.net. Though intraday data that far back is a lot harder to find.

Investools.com also has a lot of good historical info.(also limited on how far back to go)

You might also try esignal.com, a very popular information provider.

Those are two questions.

1. Intraday or tick data is not freely available. You can buy some on http://disktrading.is99.com/disktrading (intraday dj data from 1998 onwards).

2. Your second question is actually about the results of some technical analysis that will largely depend on sensitivity parameters that you will have to set yourself. What does going up mean? If the index goes down by .01% does that mean an upward trend has been broken? You'll need an algorithm based on tick data and a sensitivity parameter to find the "trends" of the past.

Finally your sensitivity concerns may require only daily data that is freely available on websites such as Yahoo! Finance (download in csv format, then import to Excel or any other application).

Intraday data are typically not available for free. You'll have to buy it from a data vendor.

go to Dow Jones and company on the web. Ask them if they keep such detailed records on the DJIA, I think they do.
