In the states (I'm a Canadian so I'm going by car magazines)
there's the 6i - 2.3L engine - 160hp, 155lb-ft (i drive a black one of these)
and the 6s - 3.0L engine - 220hp Ford engine.
If you can wait for the new FZI engine in the next-gen mazda6's do it. The stock engine is rumoured to make at least 255hp and could go as high as 300.

215hp @ 6000 rpm 3.0-liter DOHC V6
this is a ford engine - will be replaced with the 3.5litre new ford engine in the next few years. it is a good engine (i disslike ford).
2.3L In-line 4-cylinder
160hp @ 6000 rpm
real mazda engine
i do not know if the 2.3 is in the US.

V6 has about 210 hp
