subtility! ask him in a very intelligent and illiteral manner, like hey hows your wife, then he thinks you know ( if he is married) or he tries to correct the impression (if he isnt).
but if he is married I advise you just leave him alone, more often than not, relationships with married folks end with more pain than you would be happy with( on the long run).

Do a search on ancestry.co.uk bmd, a lot of guess work will be involved though i.e. estimated year of marriage, district of marriage, good luck and remember he may have got married but he could also be divorced.
