I rub my eyes in the morning because they are dry and to stimulate the tear glands to generate some moisture.

I think its because we wear make up and well I can never get it all off the night before so we rub our eyes because we get eye buggers

My girl guinea pigs (cavies) yawn and stretch when they get up after a nap, but they don't rub their eyes, because of their claws. Women don't have claws, so this isn't a problem. QED
