I currently live in ireland. I'm a fully qualified graphic designer and I'm about to become a newly qualified PC technician. In August next year I want to go to California for a year to live and work. I don't have a job to go to so I'm unsure of what visa I need. I plan on applying for a Non-Immigrant Business/Tourist (B1/B2) visa but I'm not really able to work with that visa.

Does anyone know how I can do this and get the right visa?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Are you in northen or republic? your best bet is to go to the nearest american embassy where you are, they are very helpful. failing that, have you put your CV in on Monster.com? they employ people from outside America often. You don't have to prove you can do something an american can't either....my entire family of in-laws are from europe, my dad in law came here and got a job in computers actually. Maybe if you came here on holiday, looked for a job the whole time you were here, get someone interested, because they are the ones to apply for your working visa. Then come back on the working visa, as you can't change the status on your passport while you are here. Get a "barcode" passport too, not the old ones where you have to apply for visit visa, it takes forever. Good Luck!

If you want to live/work in America, there are 2 ways to do this.

1. Marry an American citizen and emigrate (I did)
2. If you are single and want to work in America, you need to find a job first and your place of employment will apply for the correct visa on your behalf. Try yahoo jobs, hot jobs and monster.com. Also make sure you have a good resume, American employers love those things. You will also need to provide 3 referees. Be prepared to travel to the US for job interviews though

Visas are very hard to come by. However, if you are from Ireland, you have a better chance than many. They may not know anything about your qualifications, so be sure to find a US equivalent to explain them. Why on earth you would want to come to America I cannot fathom.

once you're in London visit the yank Embassy, there you may acquire information on emigrating to the united states. in case you opt to stay in the united states you do not desire a vacationer visa!

You have to prove you can do something that no American can do.
