Unfortunately, that is life as a temp. And, in a way, that's a good thing. It should be a good sign that a company will try to find someone internally for a job rather than going outside first. At least they show a willingness to help their employees find new opportunities.
Keep in mind that, very often, companies have to try to fill the job internally as a matter of procedure. But if you are in that position and are seen as a star, they can decide that you are the best person for the job and hire you. I have seen that happen many, many times.
Option 2: they fill it internally but work hard to find something else for you and eventually it turns into a full-time regular job since they don't like to lose good people.
In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt to follow up with your direct manager at your temp job (i.e. not at the agency but where you work) to find out: 1) how are you doing; 2) what can you do better on the job; 3) if getting hired is an option, what are they looking for. All are fair questions and could give you more specific details on how to get that job or another in the company. And you look interested in 1) doing a better job; 2) the company in general.

Wait it out a bit and see what happens. Things always happen in an office that you will not agree with, but sometimes, we just have to bite our lips and bare with it and sometimes, what you think might have been a bad thing, actually turns out to be good. At least you are working. There are a lot of people out there without a job. It won't hurt you to hang in there a little longer. Just pray and ask God to let them make the right decisions on your part. Good luck.

Work hard and do what you can to stand out. The reasons that the other person got hired may have nothing to do with you. The fact that you are still in the mix is good. Keep slugging and view this as an opportunity to show your versatility and teamwork skills.

It sounds like a good company. Many companies don't bother to promote from within. If the pay & perks are good, stick with it. If you don't feel like you want to work for this company, ask the agency if they have somewhere else they can send you.

I would say stick around. Temps tend to get the short of the stick at times. Don't take it personally. If they kept you around, then they most likely want you stay for the long haul.

how 'bout this. if you like the company then work hard and do everything that is expected of you and earn the respect of your boss and co-workers. then move up the ladder, full time regular, promotions, etc...
if not, walk and blame them for your lack of effort and performance.
