Did the unibomber or Timothy McVeigh have ties to al qaida or muslim extremists? I didn't think so, so why then did Dubya in one of his speeches say we are at war with "islamic extremists" and not terror. Terrorism is not exclusive to the muslims, or is it like the illegal immigration issue not being about illegals but about Mexicans?

It could be that he's recently figured out that Terrorism isn't a country, it's a tactic. Not only that, but it's a tactic of doing things for attention to a cause- which he's been giving them in spades. While I think it's a terrible idea to take on the entire Muslim world, at least they actually are a group of people, instead of an approach to warfare. While it isn't a good plan, it is at least finally grammatically correct.

It's never been about Muslims. At first, he really just needed to blame somebody for 9/11. Soon after that, the administration realized how much that scared people, and decided that we're easier to control when we're scared. Funny, that's what the terrorists think too. The "war on terror" can't be fought in foreign countries, but in our hearts. We live in "the home of the brave", so lets face our fears with courage. Nobody can control us, if we're in control.

By the way, while most of the associations we've been hearing lately with the word terrorist have been islamic, where does this 99% figure I keep reading come from? Has anyone actually done a study? Or is this like the rest of the 83% of all statistics that are made up on the spot?

The unabomber is a serial killer that probably was the zodiac killer at Berkley long ago.

McVeigh was upset over the government burning out the Waco compound. He joined a militia group that his partner Nichols was part of. Nichols went to the Philippines and met with possible al queda members. The evidence is the bomb that he and McVeigh made was identical to the trade center bomb all the way down to putting cannon fuses inside of plastic hose to keep smoke from coming out of the vehicle when lit.

So it is possible that this militia may have contacted terror groups in the purpose to figure out how to make certain explosives. For the al queda it would certainly be one way to perform terrorism in paying off a militia group to attack their own country. In all reality many countries have hired revolutionary groups to fight their own governments. This is nothing new.

Redhead...Good girl! No, Mr. McVeigh was all wrapped up in the Waco massacre with the "David Sect", and got involved with the wrong folks. Terrorism is not exclusive to Muslims, or anyone else. The IRA, ETA, RAF, Black September, PLO were all terrorist. We are at war against terrorism, and in the world today it does consists of mainly Muslim Extremists.

I didn't see any white guys hijacking any aircraft and hurling them into the WTC. I don't see any white guys beheading innocent civilians. I don't see any white guys strapping bombs on their chest and walking into shopping malls and restaraunts and blowing them up.

Grow up little girl. READ a book and LEARN what this war is truly about. These Muslim/Ilsamic terrorists want to kill YOU and ME.

And we ARE at war with Islamic extremists.

Terrorism is a tactic, its kinda hard to have a war against that...
thats like saying "war on tank warfare" or "war on urban combat"
it just doesnt make sense.

What do you think the ratio of "terrorists" like Mcveigh is compared to islamic extremists?

2006-08-16 13:16:45 · answer #6 · answered by TLJaguar 3 · 3 0

When 99 percent of the terrorists are muslim extremists...and they make statement that a group of people should be wiped off the earth...and blow themselves up in the middle of crowds on a daily basis, I would think that would create a mindset that they are the problem. I mean, if this were a math class it would be considered deductive reasoning and this wouldn't even be a discussion!!!

It is very uncomfortable to declare war on people like Tim McVeigh and their followers because they are too much like "us." War requires an us and them mentality. People don't want to kill people that are too much like "us." It's always easier to kill them if you can demonize them and de-humanize them and treat them like "them." This is why it never made sense to use the terminology "war on terror." You cannot declare war on a tactic. That only encourages the tactic to be used more. If you are going to say you are at war, you have to identify who you are at war with. After 5 years, Bush is just starting to do that.

hmmm... let's do the math. there is 1 timothy mcveigh... there are 1,000s of islamic terrorists. that's ok though, you left-wingers keep playing that mcveigh card.

over half of all illegal immigrants are mexican... so if there is 1 illegal irish-man here does that make it equal?

remember this: The Exceptions Prove The Rule!
