It's not the wheelbase -- it's the size of the wheel opening and the steering geometry. I suggest that you go to www.tirerack.com and see if the company (The Tire Rack) shows a 17-inch wheel that will fit your car. I've purchased several items from The Tire Rack and recommend it as a good source for car tires and wheels.

You're off to a rocky start there..... your concerns should be the offset, rim width and the tire size more than the wheelbase. You can fit 18's under there without much of a problem so 17's will certainly fit.... unless you decide to buy huge tires for some reason.
