I have seen both versions of this movie. The first one was made in the late 1930s or early 1940s. It starred Paulette Goddard and was in black and white. The second was in the late 1950s or early 1960s and was in color. It starred Lana Turner and Sandra Dee. Although both dealt with the same subject matter, there were some differences. They are both good movies in what my youngest son calls the "mom" genre.

I seen this movie like a thousand times and I still cry everytime I watch it. I never knew that there was a book though. I'll have to try to find it. Now, you're gonna make me break out some old TAPES and find that movie...lol.

Oh my God Yes, To disown your mother like that.... I seen the movie when I was much younger..... It's very sad. I think the movie was made back in the late 1950's.

Yes, and I've always loved that movie.
They should actually remake it. But at the time it was made, Blacks were treated like second class citizens, so it was told from that perspective.

best movie i have ever seen. the old one with Lana Turner and Jaunita Moore. i own it. actually had to but it twice. always show it to my friends who have never seen it. it is beautiful.
