Depends on what you are trying to say and his personal interests. You wouldn't give a football to someone who hates sports and maybe likes to read all day, you'd go with a book he has shown interest in. If you are trying to get with him, maybe cologne would be more appropriate. Try to tailor the gift to his likes more than just because he happens to be male and young.

Some gifts I got in the past that may give you some ideas (I'm a male of 25)

a mineola orange (personal favorite fruit, cheap to buy but one of my favorite gifts ever)

a book (a hardbound copy of my favorite book, the Count of Monte Cristo, look for a similar favorite book for him)

1+2 season of my favorite show on DVD

my brother is into sports (21 year old) and liked the basketball my dad gave him. He also liked the DVD of basketball's greatest moments my mom gave him.

And I gave my dad a large bible that would fit in with his new home as both a decoration and something to study from (he's very religous) when he got remarried.

What does he like? Maybe take him to lunch and an electronics store or a sports store and let him get what he wants. It's more personal than the gift card.

Depends on how close he is. If he is a very good friend then a nice after shave/cologne set is appropriate. Jesus loves you.
