Clearly a more refined version of W.C. Fields earlier observation (from the 20's) that, "Everyone needs something to believe in. I believe I'll have another drink."

Liberals are, of course, are an extremely diverse crowd. They got together to oppose Republicans in elections, but between elections they don't quite make the news. They are out in the woods saving trees, marching to support rights, having bake sales, teaching, all kinds of things (many of these things are very GOOD).
So rather than paint all of these people as "Liberals", they are better described by other terms. Right now they are just under the radar.
