Call the person who wrote you the check and ask them why they stopped it.

I had to stop payment on some checks when I lost my wallet, but was not totally sure which checks I had not used (my check register was in the lost wallet!), and I inadvertantly stopped a check to my hairstylist!

I didn't know I had done this until she called and told me. I paid her in cash the next day.

Give them a chance to make it right, and if they don't, then call a lawyer. Good luck!

call your lawyer or the courhouse for legal advice. There are also lots og legal hotlines you can call in order to better understand your options

Make sure you can prove you performed your service, and sue them in small claims court.
