Some day we too shall be old. Eventually most of us need care from someone else. It is very important to have a "living will" so that our loved ones know our wishes should we ever become unable to express them ourselves. No one likes to think about these possibilities, but they can actually happen anytime - you don't have to be old to become dependent - think of Christopher Reeve.

We all walk the same path but we each walk it in our own way.

Thank God for loving family and friends. And for all the hard to find good care givers out there. My Dad was a stroke victim and paralyzed on his left side. Some people were so good and careful with him and some were complete jerks.
Our old folks are precious and burdensome too, but remember we wouldn't be here if not for them. And don't we just love to inherit their possessions. I hope I have good luck when I'm there because none of us can fight the aging process.

My partner and I were discussing this the other day...

See his parents are in their 80s and still live on and manage their farm. Other family members believe his parents should be selling up and moving into town closer to services etc. and as a result none of the others family members will visit his parents on the farm, I think they are attemting to prove how muh his parents need to move simply because they think this is right for them...

My partner and I love to go to the farm and spend time there we always do one or two jobs while there that is a bit too much for his parents to do and often talk with them about what they want..

They want to remain on the farm and believe going to town will only bore them and hurry up their demise...

It was a sad endictment on the family when my partners father pointed out to his daughter, my partners sister, that I have spent more time on the farm in reent years than she and I live an 8 hour drive away and she lives in their local town.

When we go to the farm and see his Dad stride across the paddocks surveying his own kingdom we can not imagine him cooped up on a residential block in town... no sheep to worry over, no crops to watch...

And we watch his mother jumping on the quad bike to go out and survey the fences and hear her screaming at their sheep dog that just do as he is told.... and then watch her fussing over the paperwork for volunteer organisations that she helps out...

Well we just smile and say... "This is where they need to be...It would be too sad to see them in town... dying of boredom"

Perhaps one day we will pak our bags and move on up to the farm to help them manage it but for now.... they are doing fine..

I know a lady who had a stroke. She had a live in boyfriend and they were getting married. The lady's daughter took over, and kicked the guy out. He was there everyday with her, he bathed her, fed her, took care of her. But, still the daughter kicked him out. I am postivie, if she could speak for herself...that would never have happened.
My family knows what to do if this happens for me and I know what to do for my husband in the same. We talk about it. Be sure to talk about things like this regularly.
And whether to be a donor.

Oh, I think I'd rather die than live that way. Not only that I can't make decisions but I have to be a burden to other people too? No way- if I ever become that way, would someone please just let me die. I'll take the lethal injection.
