I think in this case you just replace x with (a-2), so

f(a-2) = 5(a-2) - 1
= 5a - 10 - 1
= 5a - 11

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you because I totally forgot how to do these kind of problems but I just wanted to say that the comment that Albert C is really mean and shame on people who like to make fun of others and say totally rude things. If those people who left rude comments cannot answer the question then they are the ones who are dumb and stupid.

f(x) = 5x-1 then f(a-2) = ?

a-2 replaces x in f(x). Therefore f(a-1)=5(a-2)-1 = 5a-11.

In this case, x=a-2
If you substitute (a-2) for x, you get
f(a-2)=5(a-2)-1
If you distribute the 5 to what is in the parentheses, you get
f(a-2)=(5a-10)-1
Now just simplify and you have your answer:
f(a-2)=5a-11
