My father had a triple bypass and he was in intensive care for3 weeks now why does he have to go to rehab if he is still sick and he can not talk. He is also paralized. How can they do that? They can't show me how to feed him through his feeding tube.

Rehab is to retrain him in the abilities he lost (speech therapy...which needs to be done by a trained therapist) and to increase his mobility...things the average family member is not trained to do. He will also receive instruction on exercise, education about health and lifestyle modification. All of this is geared to making him as independent as possible and returning him to health as soon as possible. Just feeding him through a tube is not the answer to getting him back to a more normal lifestyle nor is it the answer to getting him healthy again. Remember, hon, this is what is best for him! Don't you want him to be the way your remember before this happened? I know you want to be with him and take care of him but you would not be doing him any favors. Show your love by letting him go to rehab where they will help him recover as much as possible. Good luck!
