Statistics are indicating 5 days of rain in October.. if you stay 1 week and those 5 days are falling down on you, you will hate yourself.. even driving into the mountains or coastal roads are rather tricky in such circumstances.. I know, I had 3 raindays..
IF however you are lucky - and odds 1/5 are for you - then you will have a beautiful holiday in one of the most authentic Greek islands.
Love Greece, adore Crete..

I have lived in Crete and generally the weather can be very good at that time. The sea is still warm and there is a good chance of plenty of sun with the advantage that most tourists have gone.
It is about the end of October or beginning of November that the weather breaks into a winter cycle. When that does happen there can be a lot of rain.

There is no "best time" to visit Crete, it depends on what you are looking for. But, this is one of the better months as the weather is not as hot anymore. The sea is still really warm and there are far less tourists. The Cretans - especially the ones who work with tourism - although tired from the summer season are getting more relaxed. It is also one of the preferred period for hikers. One drawback is that as it has not rained for several months the nature is really dry.
Max temp C 24. F 75. Average daytime temp 20C 68 F.

Hope this helps you.

Many years ago I was in Crete (south) ffrom Oct to Dec and it was hot every single day, probably about 25C or more. However weather patterns have changed a good bit since then, but I expect it will still be hot enough to sunbathe most days.

I go to Kos (to the right of Crete) late October, it's similar weather to our summer, sometimes cool, sometimes hot, sometimes raining. Bloody unpredictable to be honest.

* Late October to early January: unstable Autumn weather, ranging from sunny and warm days with about 25° C to some rainy, cloudy and windy days with 16° C. It might be possible to comfortably swim in the sea until early January, since the water still is warm.

Days are shorter, temps lower and humidity higher but comfortable!
Which is: temps up to 30s, some times!
Some times there is some rain!
