Usually it's on the Start/programs menu. but you can enable it for your desktop by right clicking your background, then select properties, then select the Desktop tab, the the Customize desktop button on the bottom. Then Check the boxes for the items you want your your desktop. eg. Internet explorer. hit okay and it should be now on your desktop.
