You need to rest your vocal folds (they're folds of muscle, not cords.) And that means NO whispering, EVER! Whispering is worse for your vocal folds than just talking quietly.

You need to talk to your director about your voice. There are things you can do to make your voice louder (like diaphragmatic breathing and good breath control) that won't strain your folds. Also, do NOT sing outside your range! I don't care how much you want to hit that high or low note (or both of them)--it's not worth it if it wrecks your voice! You need to sing smarter, not harder--singing shouldn't be painful! If you get to the point where you can't even talk, kiss your singing goodbye. Don't even think about straining your voice to where you need surgery (and you will, if you don't get more cautious right now!) Prevention is the best remedy for voice strain. It doesn't matter what you inhale or get injected into your vocal folds--if you keep doing harmful singing or yelling or whatever, it won't help the damage you're doing. Be careful, and talk to someone about being coached.

Silence.

I know this sounds like a rubbish answer, but I really mean it.
