To learn at my own pace about places, people, and ideas I'm probably going to never see with my own eyes. To improve my own value as a knowledgable, intelligent citizen who is conversant in a variety of subjects. To prove that ignorance is NOT bliss; instead, ignorance is a wasted life. To entertain and be entertained, to educate and be educated, to live by sucking the marrow out of life (shades of Henry David Thoreau) and sharing a point of view that acknowldges more than one side to a question. To not see life in black and white all the time and acknowledge shades of grey.
Ultimately, I read books to improve my world and remind myself that all is not lost for the human race. Have a great day!

To learn, to relax, to go places in my mind that I could never afford. To read about so many characters, some of them we hate, some we fall in love with and some who come back to visit every year with a new tale if you are reading a book in a series. I love the fact there are stacks of books in our home just waiting to be read. I started reading a book last night that I've read two times before. Why? I was looking to start a new book but the one I grabbed just said to me "it's time again." I love it and I know there will always be another book waiting to be read right up until my last minute on the planet.

For a variety of reasons, to get or learn information. To read for pleasure. To learn about someone's life or philosophy as in autobiographies or biographies.
But maninly I read because I enjoy reading and always have. You can go anywhere, be anything, do anything within the confines of a book.

Hi there!
People read for a whole lot of reasons; educational, fun, relaxation etc. It all depends on the level you are. But basically, we read so we can accumulate what it took an average of 100 people to put forth. THINK ABOUT THAT. Yes, when we read a book, we are assimilating what someone who was taught by someone, who was taught by someone still, who was equally taught by someone, is putting down.It chain continues, non stop. That is why i read all materials. Inorder to be AWARE. Good luck, and happy future reading.

I read books for fun and something to do other than just watch TV. Although I do enjoy TV. Also who knows what you could learn, by just picking up a book.

Because when reading books my mind can shape the scenes in that book, the personalities, everything. They really occupy the brain.

For entertainment. I used to read in my free time at work, then I took up cross stitching, but now I'm addicted to Yahoo answers.
