a high white cell count is usually caused by an infection, be it a cold or something more serious, it also depends on how high the WCC is and if you have any other symptoms....this is best discussed with the doctor/nurse that took your blood and told you the results...most likely nothing more than a small infection that may or may not need antibiotics.

if you are otherwise feeling ok then it is unlikely to be something serious like blood cancer or other things you are currently thinking about.With Leukaemia the red cells as well as the clotting cells go down and the white cells may go up or down.However if you are fit with no loss of weight or excessive tiredness, or night sweats or persistent bone pains, then I will put my money you have nothing to worry about.
see your GP and ask him what is going on then you will sleep better.

This could be many things but the first thing to consider is some sort of infection. You WBC count goes up if you have an infection of some sort, such as an infected cut or a bacterial infection.

If you do not have some sort of infection, it could be a number of things. If your doctor has seen the results he/she should be getting back to you for more tests or to discuss the results.

You could have an unidentified infectionsomewhere in your body. Your body produces extra wbc when you are sick in order to attack the infection. Talk to your doctor, they'll be able to help you figure out whats going on.

A high white cell count could mean you have leukemia, i don't want to worry you but stay positive and don't worry about it until it is confirmed what you have.

white blood cells are the cells in your body that fights of infections that's there job...it might mean that you do have an infection or had an infection or your system is just ready to fight any infections which might enter your body
