he is a good defender no doubt, but after watching the team USA exhibitions, i think he receives way too much credit for his defense... he sucks on offense and doesn't mind being an offensive liability because he wants to spend every ounce of his energy only on the defensive end... any nba player can play defense like him if they also focus their effort on defense alone...

i think he is a bit of an overrated defensive player...he doesnt have that much quickness and all he has going for him is he works hard in defense...if you put him on a team like atlanta or toronto he would be very ineffective...he is good at being a pest but he has no other special function like rebounding or passing...overall against dallas in the playoffs he was overmatched by nowitski....nowitski was able to just rebound his miss and put it back in the hoop...bowen was helpless in this kind of situation...ye, i would think he is kinda overrated ..when he was wid boston and they were into trapping defense...bowen did not excel in that setup...i think bowen peaked when the spurs won the championship 2 yrs ago...ryt now i can see his footspeed is declining... and a lot of his defensive assignments have easily outscored him...i see bruce going further in the spurs bench this season...he's getting old...he has no hops for shotblocking, not enuff footspeed for lateral movements...all he has left is heart, willingness to defend and experience...sometimes that is simply not enough in the nba...

he is not overrated, for the fact that NBA doesn't appreciate good defensive player enough. (NBA wants high scoring matches, thus point guards and slashers are protected). MVP of the season, Steve Nash is famous for his inability to guard anyone. But that does not make him less valuable.

The opposite goes to Bowen. How many active players has the inteligence, discipline, and physical attributes to shutout the opponent ace on a man-to-man match up? (Not just guard him, but really making him work for every point) Bruce Bowen, Ron Artest, and that made up maybe the whole list if not half. And Bowen has been working on this corner three point shot just to make the defense honest. And I hate him everytime he makes it. Oh, and he plays dirty, no doubt about it.

He is not overrated. His defensive game might not be as flashy as Ben Wallace or Ron Artest, but he puts a choke on some of the best players. SA would never be so good without him. He doesn't need to concentrate on offense as SA has great offensive guys like Parker, Ganobili and Duncan.

I do agree that he plays rough and if I were the ref I'd call more fouls

of course he is OVERRATED... anyone that thinks otherwise doesn't know basketball at all... i cant believe some people compare bowen to defensive specialists like artest and kirilenko... i think his defense is more similar to guys like ira newble and greg buckner...

he's not even the best defender on his team, its TD and Manu... yes he defended dirk last playoffs but last time i checked it was nowitzki who scored that go ahead 3point play to eliminate the spurs, and guess who guarded him??? Ginobili and Horry could have done much much better...

and 6 straight defensive team selections??? now if that's not overrated, i dont know what is...

at least justice was made when he was cut from the US team... but nevertheless, he is still OVERRATED!!!!!!!

firstly, it relatively is only for one interest. Spurs nevertheless would desire to bypass to Cleavland and play 2 video games. Bowen is a grimy participant and he's high-quality defender. he's not gonna stop James with the aid of himself. I believe you once you wrote "team protection" became into the reason James had a foul shooting night. and then he began determining on up his interest in 4th Q. To play protection on LeBron, you will desire to beat him to his little spots that he likes attending to on the floor. And Spurs have been waiting to this as a results of "team protection". yet purely watch, LeBron is unquestionably stable at adjusting his interest for notwithstanding form of protection hes dealing with. of path for his earnings.

There is nothing wrong with focusing on defense. Dirk Nowitzki is a superstar and is very good on the offensive end but is a huge liability on defense. Lots of teams would probably love to have a player like Bruce Bowen on their team.

He isnt overrated, but he does get away with some hand checking that other players get called for. He reaches a lot. His offensive ability isnt that bad, he had one of the best three point shot percentages in the league last season.

He plays physical defense but is a borderline thug. I mean some of the stuff he does is ridiculous and is not called for.

First, THANX for asking this question. Yes Yes Yes Bruce Bowen is overrated. He is a freakin' "hack." He does what most players on any level do, he pushes off, hacks, and hooks. His defense makes me sick. :(
