I don't understand all of the stereotypes of different nationalities. How do they form? Do they come up because of generaliztions? I never understood why there were so many dumb stertypes of people in America.

Its like when you see something all ways the same. Over and over, so much you can predict the future happenings or mannerisms. Drive thru the rural south and you may get the idea these people are redneck hicks; If most of the crime in an area is done by black people then you may say all the blacks in this area are no good drug addicts; If terrorist are of a certain religion then you may say of that religion , there all terrorist. Plus we've all known a family that when mentioned you say...the Smiths yep I know them there all bad. are they all bad?

Its only natural and smart to stereotype. EVER BODY stereotypes something. You buy food at the same food chain, its always priced too high, so now you don't go there or would keep going over and over. You may not shop a certain clothing store because they were rude to you sometime in the past...I don't shop that store they are rude.STEREOTYPE

People that don't like stereotyping usually have some connection to an undesirable group or just like buying the same over priced food over and over. Or are hypocrites

I think it most likey starts with just a few. People who have very few encounters with a paticular nationality or faith or color or...
And then ingorance takes over in the rest of the world that has NO encounter and like idiots they believe it.
No I don't want to say that ALL people in a particular faith, or nationality or color or.... are sweet darling little angels. There is good and bad in all people.
All Muslims to not like Americans.
All Muslims to not hate Amerians.
All Black people do not play basketball
Some do. Some white people do also.
I persoanlly wasn't allowed to play when I was in school - they told me I was too short!

a lot of different people all having the same sortof experiences.. stereotypes are based on fact and truth. it becomes wrong when you say ALL are like that. but enough people in the group or culture being stereotyped are like that for people to draw the same conclusions.

Yes, pretty much generalizations. Anything that is not factual and cannot apply to EVERY member of a race is called a "stereotype". Like for example, people say that blondes are dumb, that doesn't apply to EVERY blonde. Or Jewish people are cheap (that doesn't apply to EVERY Jew)., etc..

When enough people from a certain sect act in one way that is recognizeable by others..it seems as if all those people behave that way..thus..stereotyping happens.

the narrow-minded views of the naive, stupid and ignorant.
I don't get it either. some people don't get out much, I guess. they judge a whole group of people by 1 person. if they only realize that most people never fit the stereotypes. tv and movies haven't helped either.
