While Portugal is not on the Mediterranean Sea, it does have many things in common with many of the Mediterranean countries: Spain, Italy, Greece, Albania, France, Croatia, Montenegro, Cyprus. Some of the other European countries with Mediterranean coastlines are Slovenia, Monaco, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Malta, and Turkey (Turkey has lands in both Asia and Europe).
Portugal has a similar climate to Spain, Italy, and Greece, mostly because of its latitude and coastal links. Like Spain, Italy, and Greece, it has a strong culture of seafaring and fishing and maritime trade. It also has a common linguistic root to the western Mediterranean languages: Spanish, French, and Italian (the Romance languages, derives from Latin) and religion (Roman Catholicism is predominant).
So while Portugal isn't on the Mediterranean Sea (to be considered a Mediterranean country), you can definitely say that it belongs with the countries of Southern Europe (which covers many of the countries that it is most like culturally - Spain, Italy, etc.)

Portugal does not count because it is not on the Mediterranean -- it faces the Atlantic Ocean. Mediterranean countries include Spain, France, Monaco, Italy, Albania, some of former Yugoslavia, Greece. There are additional countries in Asia and Africa.

Don't think Portugal count, since it faces the Atlantic ocean, not the Mediterranean sea.
I think the complete list is Spain, United Kingdom (because of Gibraltar !!!), France, Monaco, Italy, Slovenia (very little coastline), Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina (very little coastline since all the place is taken by Croatia), Albania, Greece, Cyprus, Malta. Add Turkey if you consider it as a European country.
"Main mediterranean countries" : it depends on what you call "main". If it's the larger by area, restrict to Spain, France, Italy, and Greece.

I even have been to Czech Republic (is greater northern Europe) - Prague is in basic terms staggering and the Palace there is rather some thing to work out. Austria is likewise eye-catching (Vienna and Saltzburg). Venice Italy is extremely nicely well worth the pass to - plenty to work obtainable, it rather is high priced Venice so we in basic terms stayed 3 nights yet we've been given to work out adequate via fact the rather some attractions are very close at the same time, we left money in our fee variety to stay on the rather Island of Venice - in basic terms outstanding and old, however the vacationer signs and indications are not very sturdy - I recommend you're taking a sturdy GPS equipment with you that has a protracted battery existence and which you will in good shape into your handbag at the same time as walking around. We in basic terms used maps - yet nevertheless controlled to locate our way out of each and every of the corridors in Venice. Take spare reminiscence sticks to your cameras, Europe is a image suited 2nd exceedingly plenty each and every the place you look.
