This should go without saying, but please don't respond if you just want to give me a hard time for needing part-day (4+ hours) coverage.

I think that the right provider can be a positive and fun experience for a kid, interacting with new people and other children.

From what I hear, places like KinderCare charge about $360 a week whether you need it all day or just a small part of the day.

That is correct. In Northern Virginia, it costs on average about $350 a week for childcare for one child. They will typically give a 10% discount on 2 children.

The reason why it doesn't cost any less if your child will be there part time or full time, is because your child will have a paid spot and will get the best attention.
