It seems like people always know cool websites and I wonder how they found out about them. Even the news shows some really cool ones that I had no idea were out there.

For example, I didn't hear about the Little Red PaperClip thing until he traded for the house. How did people know about the project beforehand?

What is your source of good websites? How do you keep "in the know" of popular and interesting websites?

Well, most people find cool websites from surfing the web. This is done by searching for whimsical things. But many sites are also discovered through ads, behind-the-scenes development, and word-of-mouth. Don't worry if you haven't heard about the latest websites, because many others haven't either. Think about it, PEOPLE create websites and tell their friends who tell more people. It's like a wave.

I think it's all about exposure and chance. The more media outlets you make yourself available to, the more you'll be able to take in. I found out about the Red Paperclip by chance when I was at the car dealership having my car repaired (it came on a news/entertainment segment on tv).

When you query Yahoo, or Google Search Engines, that list the most relevant sites to your query, example: I am interested in making a Patio, go to google, and type in "how to build a patio", without the quotes, and no question marks, they use them by default search, it will display the most relevant sites to show me how to build a patio, even the tools to build it with, this works on all things, try it, you will get blown away, with the results.. Good Luck

Well, word of mouth. There are few sites I enjoy that have been told to me.

www.snopes.com (breaking urban legends and rumors)
www.imdb.com (celebrity career history, tv and movie info) (VERY thorough!)
www.flylady.net (helps me understand that organization doesn't come in one day)

I search on Yahoo and Google for things I might be interested in. I wish I knew about the little red paperclip earlier...I would have started one too...lol.
Well, maybe I will!

Well, your just browsing around your regular website that you visit everyday (Yahoo) and then theres this link that has something that you like on it and then there you see another link you click on it and there theres another link, etc.

And thats how I discover websites.
