I have been taking Femulen (a mini pill) for about 4 months now, and my periods have completely stopped. At first I was worried, and did pregnancy test, but then found out that the mini pill can sometimes make periods stop. I know that the pill can sometimes be as low as 90% effective, but if i've got no periods, surely that means that no egg is being released or cared for? Does this mean I don't need to use condoms as well, or are the chances and risks still the same despite the fact my periods have stopped?

(I am in a long-term monogamous relationship - we're not using condoms to prevent the spread of STDs or anything, we've just been using them to decrease the chances of pregnancy further)

If you were using condoms only for contraception, and not to prevent STDs, you can safely stop using condoms if you use the minipill consistently and your periods have already stopped.
Just some info for you.... The mini-pill is very low-dose contraceptive containing only progestin. Like other progestin-only pills, it inhibits ovulation, thickens and decreases cervical mucus (making it difficult for sperm penetration), creates a thin endometrial lining, and premature destruction of the corpus luteum (hormone- producing cells that develop from the ovarian follicle once a ripened ovum (egg) has been expelled. These hormone-producing cells produce progesterone to prepare the uterine lining for implantation.) Failure rate during first year of typical use ranges from 1.1% to 13.2%. Effectiveness is highest if ovulation is consistently inhibited. Effectiveness is greatest, then, when the "normal" bleeding pattern is most disturbed.

Oh my dear, I worry about you. If you are having sex you can get pregnant. If this is as you say "a long term monogamous relationship" when was the last time either of you had a blood test. I ask this for two purposes. The first is STI's(sexually Transmitted Infections) the second is more for you just to check your health.
If you do not want to get pregnant, I would suggest you take as may precautions as possible. Yes, sex is great, but youhave to ask yourself if the conquences are greater then the risk then REDUCE THE RISK!
Keep in mind amenoria (stoppage of your period) can also take place with increased phycial activity. So if you have started a new workout routine that could also stop you period, but you are still able to concive.

I have the IUD and my periods have also stopped which my doctor says is perfectly normal. She says that my cycle is still going;it has not been affected. If I decide to have another baby then I just have the IUD removed and it has no effects to whether I can or can't get pregnant, however some pills do alter your cyles and it may make it more difficult to get pregant when you stop using them. DO NOT trust that just because your periods have stopped that you can't get pregnant because there is always that slim possibility.

Ask your GYN or a pharmacist. You shouldn't ask for medical information from the general public. You could be relying on incorrect information.
