I used to work for HP i'll have you know this is one of the most common accidents with a pc. The problem with a laptop is that most of the electronics are directly under the keyboard. The chance that they did not get damaged if the pc was on is practically nil if it was off you might get the lucky chance that none of the delicate units burnt out so you MIGHT get so lucky you just need to let it dry and fixed but chances are rather slim!!
BTW tip for dummies keep your coffee at least 3 feet away from your computer it avoids such problems!!!

Laptop keyboards are more flakey than the pc ones. Sometimes, you have to take the laptop case apart to get to the keyboard. First, I'd open the laptop and leave it upside down for a day to see if it'll dry itself out. Failing that, take it apart and replace the keyboard or use a pc keyboard with a usb connection. The laptop will see the connected keyboard and let you use it instead.

OOOO a laptop. Harsh.
Well there is a chane. Leave it a day (in a mildly hot place probberbly) so it can dry out then try it.
Another idea that I just saw was try blowing it out with a can of compressed air.
If it shows any sign of having problems when you turn it on - whipe out the battery and power supply and take it down a computer repair shop.

does this mean that your laptop stopped working? If it is ok, then just leave your laptop disconnected and turned off while it dries for a few days....best would be to take off the top cover and get into and under the key board with a damp towel...it is not hard to do and saves you the $$ from the PC repair shops that gauge every chance they get

You might have to let it dry. I spilled cherry Seven Up on my keyboard and put back in its box and left in a closet. I bought a new keyboard. When I got another computer, I used the keyboard that had Seven Up on it. I just wiped off the sticky areas a cleaned it with a moist paper towel with barely on water on it. I plugged the keyboard up, and it worked.

yep, turn it upside down like it was seawater in your wellies. Let it dry. Wipe. That's all. Doesn't take 2 days. If that fails, it will need to be opened up and cleaned. But laptop keyboards are a pain in the áss to put together; paying someone to do it will hurt less.

The last keyboard I bought was about 6 years ago and they were only £3 then so let it dry if you can be bothered to wait otherwise just nip out and buy a new one.

It will probably be just fine. If you have to , pop off the keys (one by one so you dont replace them in the wrong places) and use a damp q-tip to clean up the mess underneath. Then just pop them back on. I spilled a sugary soda on my key board once, and I was able to clean it up with no problem.
One thing to keep in mind, is that even if your keyboard is totally hosed and broken, you can go and buy a new one for 10-15 bucks.

If it was just coffee you may be fine once it dries .... the real question is how do you take your coffee? If it had a lot of sugar in it (or powdered creamer) you will probably end up with many sticking keys.
