Overheating could be cause for illness especially in very young and elderly people. At 6 months old, a baby is not able to tell you if he is too hot or too cold so a good rule of thumb is to not dress your baby with more or less clothes than you are comfortable in. One lightweight blanket is all a baby needs in his bed. If you are concerned about him becoming chilled, dress him in warmer pajamas instead of adding more covers. A too warm baby will make his sleep fitful and then he may become fussy and fretful while he is awake.

I am not sure about sick, but I do know that one of the causes of SIDS is your baby being too hot. When he is sleeping put too fingers behind his neck if he feels hot then he is too hot. If when he is waking up he is sweaty then he is too hot. Generally you want to dress them for bed the same as you and put the same amount of blankets on as you. We tend to think that they look more comfy with a lot of blankets but if they are hot they are not comfortable. I know how hard it is I have a 4 month old. Good luck and I hope that this helped

Short answer...No. THere is no reason to put too many covers on a baby though if the temp in the room is fine & they have pj's on. Also, too many covers can up the risk of suffocation. Getting too hot/cold cannot cause you to get sick, though, that's caused by a virus.

DO NOT PUT TOO MANY COVERS ON YOUR BABY!!!! This increases the risk of SIDS! A six month old can regulate their own body temperature so the amount of clothing you sleep in is the amount of clothing a 6 month old shoudl sleep in.

He won't get sick, but why make him miserable? Have you tried sleeping under 5 blankets while sweating? Anyway...my kids, 2, slept bare all the time...my daughter, now 21/2 still sleeps without a blanket, I cover her and she takes it off, my son, 1 year old, same thing, they just like it. I've tried covering them since they were newborns and it never worked, just let them be.

maybe, id be more concerned about sids.....my doctor and the doctors of some friends have said that a baby is better off being a little cold than being too hot because it is a factor in sids they get too hot to breath. i always made sure my sons clothing was enough to keep him warm and didnt really use a blanket untill i knew he was old enough to not smother if he got wraped up in it.

YES!! You should NEVER put covers on a six month old! One, it could suffocate them, but two, research has shown that overheating is a factor that sometimes leads to SIDS..Please dont layer covers on your baby it is VERY dangerous!! Not only could it make the baby sick (overheating, heat stroke) but, could actually kill your baby.

A six-month old should not have ANY covers on him/her. It increases the chances of SIDS and is a suffocation hazard. One cause of SIDS is overheating in babies, so PLEASE put the covers away for now. Read the attached website.
