does drinking olive oil before singing help you sound better, i think i saw it on american idol?

Sounds counterintuitive to me. Why would you want ANYTHING on your vocal chords? Once when recording a song, we broke for lunch. I had a strawberry shake, and the rest of the group looked at me as if I were crazy. Sure enough, I sounded much worse after lunch than before. They had to lower my volume or scrap the session. They should have scrapped the session.
