I have recieved letters, after they had been garnishing my wages for over 2 years, telling me I had 30 days to find a job or go to jail. I supposedly owed $1200 three years ago. After paying over $3000 more than my monthly child support I get a letter the other day telling me I still owed over $600. What happened to the extra I payed? They can't tell me. What have you experienced?

You are better off to pay first and ask questions later. Child support is no joke depending on what state you are in. I would definitely fight it, but I would pay first. Make a lot of phone calls and do exactly what you are doing...ask others!

Is your support order still in affect or is the child emancipated. Was it in affect over those three years? Get the payment records, they are usually easy to follow. Did they charge you a fine or interest for being behind? They do that pretty often. Don't mess with not paying your child support. Keep paying until it's resolved. They can make your life miserable and easily ruin the rest of it. Ever check your credit report? Your problems with paying for child support are most likely on your credit record.

If you believe that your arrears have been paid in full by now then u should contact your local child support office and request for an audit to be done- In NJ we request for a written request disputing the arrears and specific reasons why they want the audit- Before we audit the account we send out our payment history for their review, that way there is no question weather or not we received the money-- If that is not enough then after receiving the written request and reviewing account we will submit for an audit.

Gather all your receipts together (you kept receipts, right?), photocopy them, and send the copies in with a letter stating the facts... see what happens.

Are you in Canada? There was recently a court decision upholding the collection of back payments that should have been higher based on the payor's income, but were never raised due to the increased income not being reported.

I have neer had that happen, but if you live in TN, I would pay the $25 and get the records of all of your payments, and make the State give up some answers on where the money went.

I haven't experienced anything, but then again I haven't abandoned children for someone else to care for. If your check was attached, it usually means you weren't sending the ordered amount voluntarily. If they arrest you, you will then have the opportunity to face your accusers before a judge. Make sure you have proof if you paid.

I found arguing does not help. I just kept paying and at the end they had to reimburse me. Just make sure to keep good records.
