There are many reasons people have used to be cruel to animals. Some offenders have indicated that they felt powerless, un-noticed or were under control of other people. Other offenders have felt a need to shock, threaten, or intimidate a helpless victim in order to demonstrate a rejection of society’s rules. Some have abused animals to retaliate against people who love animals or have been cruel to the offender in the past.
Pets in homes where there has been domestic violence are often hurt, too. Animals in these situations may be silent victims, who may be threatened, injured or killed by a violent family member to control or intimidate other members of the household. And just like other family members, animals need a place to be safe.
The recognition of the importance of the link between animal cruelty and criminal behavior is currently drawing increased attention among behaviorists, the psychiatric community and police. Some studies have indicated a connection between animal cruelty and serial killers.
Why are people so mean, ? I sometimes try so hard to understand why so many human beings do find it easier to be critical and mean and hostile, instead of being nice, but I never seem to get to any valid explanation. Maybe because they express their inside furies and frustrations by trying to make others feel lousy too, or maybe because they just don’t care about the way their reactions affect the others or maybe “just like that”. Let me try to think of some other answers. Here’s a short one: They're hurt. And here’s the long one: They're really hurt. At some point, somebody, like their parents, their lovers or maybe Lady Luck just did them dirty. They were crushed. And they're still afraid the pain will never stop, or that it will happen again. There we go! I've just described every single person living on planet Earth. The fact is that we've all been hurt, and we're all wounded, but not all of us are mean. Why not? Because some people realize that their history of suffering can be a hero's saga rather than a victim's whine, depending on how they "write" it. The moment we begin tolerating meanness, in ourselves or others, we are using our authorial power in the service of wrongdoing. We have both the capacity and the obligation to do better and just be nice!

I think because either they are sick or insecure. I also think an anonymous think that Yahoo questions and answers allows more people to show this than would show it in person.
