There are no special cells designated as such .

Food is detoxified right from the point we put it in our mouth with saliva attacking the bacteria (bacteria are a part of EVERYTHING we eat, so it fits the "toxic substances" which have been asked about)

Then stomach acids kill most of the bacteria, it also denatures proteins and hence any toxic protein becomes harmless (because of this Snake Venom when eaten is absolutely harmless!)

Then comes Bile in small intestine which binds with toxins and makes them harmless.

Body has an intrinsic way of handling toxins,.. it does not absorb them but still there are too many which will get absorbed into our body,... then they are taken care of by Hepatocytes, Macrophages, Kuppfer Cells.

Some food toxins may be absorbed by lymphatics esp which are Fat-Soluble, then they are taken care of by Macrophages in lymphatic system

All said and done our defences are really weak thats why so many things are poisonous

Hepatic cells, I believe, because the liver is an associated gland of the digestive system ; it helps in detoxyfying harmful substances and hepatic cells are the structural and functional units of liver.
