It used to be common to go to the local butchers and get a bag of bones for the dog to chew on. Now, apparently, animals whose diet is overly high in calcium such as Hyenas, produce white droppings. Thus from this you can deduce that ,if a dog is given lots of bones to chew, then it will have pale poo too.

Why it has vanished is equally easy to trace. Back at the end of the 80s/early 90s you had the start of the BSE scares and butchers were not allowed to give people bones for their dogs. Also, you had the increase in people buying pre-packaged meat and the subsequent decrease in local butchers throughout the 1980s so nowadays most dogs get to chew those leathery bits of preserved hide or woofo-snacks you find in pet shops, meaning there are less overly calcium-filled dogs around which, in turn, explains the decrease in the need to step around their little (or not so little) white deposits on the nations pavements.

Funny question. A friend of mine once made a kid eat some at school - what a bugger!

I think it has to be left a long time to go white and with it now being a fining offense for your dog to foul the footpaths people now pick up dog poo. If you look really hard I bet you could still find some though!

Coz more people either pick it up after their dog has done the business (with a poop bag, hopefully) or the local council are doing a better job of cleaning the streets, therefore, dog mess does lay around long enough to turn white!

The Department of the Environment had a task force of vans to spray any roadside excrement with bleach. Unfortunately, Gordon Brown (note the name) cut the budget for this service in 2001, resulting in a significant reduction in jobs (or jobbies as they are referred to in Scotland).

White dog poo means that their owner is feeding them on a raw meat diet, i guess it not convenient to do that anymore with alot of peoples lifestyles, not to mention it prob be expensive.

dog pooh was white when dogs were given a lot of meat bones, which they chewed up and digested. Dogs are now fed on prepared pet foob, hence no more bones to gnaw.
