Wendy, that's silly simple. Providing U didn't hit the ATM pulling up 2 it, that is being drunk and seeing doubles, braille dots make it ease 2 double check which numbers U think U are seeing. Also U could B blind & riding with someone that is 2 high 2 function. OK?

Some have them. I think it is because the keys that are on the ATM's are not only for ATM's. The company that supplies the braille keys to the ATM manufacturers probably just put them on all of their keys. Because walk up ATM's have them as well.

Instead of buying half braille keys and half non-braille keys, it is probably cheaper to just buy all of the same type of keys. It is really a question of production, obviously a blind person is not going to drive up to an ATM. At least, I hope not.

Because it is cheaper to produce just one set of keypads with Braille dots on them, than producing some without the dots. The ones with the dots can be used by the sighted, as well as the blind. Understand? It is a simple matter of economics.

Originally, the ATM machines were going to have a Braille readout available on them. It was decided for cost reasons, to add it later so the keys were left as they were.

Since then, the cost of adding the Braille readouts has become prohibitive so the addition was never made.

Maybe some people like to challenge themselves by learning braille and not looking at the keypad

All ATMS are standard. they aren't going to manufacture special braille free ones for the Drive Thru. Just an added expense that will appear in your account fees.

hmmmmmmmmmm

reminds me of a story I saw in a police magazing - these two guy got really drunk so they decided to have their friend, who was sober, drive them. Problem was he was blind. So the two drunk guys got in the back seat and were telling the blind driver "little more to the left/right" etc. This worked for a while till they both passed out and the blind guy just kept going straight until he ran into a parked car.

Ya think too much and or smoke a little too much weed babe! Don't get me wrong though, I think it's a good thing. I think that's How God came up with the platypus?

The machines are factory standard. They are made the same for both walk up and drive through.

Excellent Q!! I've wondered the same thing myself! I asked a bank manager once and she told me ppl were NOT allowed to walk up to the machines b/c of a safety concern - they could be hit by a car. She didn't know either! lmao!!
